Prayer

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK

Loving God, we bring to you the possibilities and opportunities of this New Year.   Journey with us through the moments and the days.   Help us to walk each hour with our eyes wide open to your presence and your glory.   Amen.

 WORLD

Pray for peace in every part of the world.

As the wealthy nations of the world continue to be rocked by the financial downturn, pray that God would use this to turn people back to himself.

Pray for President Elect, Barack Obama, following his success in the USA election.  Pray that he would approach his term of office with humility.  Pray that the new administration would be characterised by Kingdom values of justice, peace, compassion and equity.

Pray for the millions of forgotten people in the two-thirds world, who are unaffected directly by the "global" financial crisis.   Remember especially the refugees of Sudan's Darfur.

NATIONAL

As the credit crunch affects more and more people, pray especially for families struggling to make ends meet, and for older people living alone and anxious about winter fuel bills.   Pray for the government that meaningful help may be made available for the most needy.

Pray for all those involved in public life, that the values of God's Kingdom: righteousness, justice, mercy and compassion, might shape their thinking and decision making.

LOCAL

Pray for churches in the town and district.  Remember the church leaders and the responsibility they carry for the spiritual life of the town and district.

Pray for the preparations now being made for our mission to South Africa next year.  Pray especially for Vicky Leonard in her leadership role, and for the rest of the travelling team: Val, Jenny, Caroline, Gary, Steve and Andy.  Pray for the whole church as we undertake this venture together.

Praise God for the recent Healing Ministry training day organised by Churches Together.  Pray for the follow-up training days to come.  Pray that an effective town-wide healing ministry may be initiated in due time.

Continue to pray for the ministry of the Kettle & Fish coffee shop, and the many opportunities presented for sharing the love of Jesus.

Prayer is listening to and talking with God.   It is about an ever deepening relationship with God.

Prayer is central to the life of our church. Every service includes prayer for others. Prayer changes things, and changes us. We pray for the world, the nation and our town. We also pray for specific concerns in the church family.

Please check here regularly for the latest news for prayer and praise.

A group in the church has committed to pray in response to particular requests, in confidence.  Requests for prayer are relayed from person to person within the group, usually by telephone, and prayer is offered for the need.

If you would like to make a request for prayer, please telephone Brenda Earl on 01787 379547.  Please ensure you have the permission of any person you wish to name for prayer.
